20 January, 2011

a thursday update...

you will have to forgive
me sweet friends.
i did not post tuesday for
'poor man's gard{en}'
and i do not have a piece
finished for today's
'lost & found'

sigh.

but i have definitely
been working hard.

mr. amazing and i
went to the melrose trading post
last sunday to scope it out
and see if it will be a good
fit for disregard{en}.
i think we found the flea market
i'll be selling at. yay!
definite dates to come.

so remember how in this post
i wrote out a list of
things i needed to do before
selling at the flea market?!
well, the list just keeps getting
longer. huh. wonder why....ha!

i have about six new pieces i am
currently working on
and
tons of merchandise for the home.
so just hold on a little bit longer.
you won't be disappointed.
in fact, you will be rewarded
just remember to leave a little note
on what inspires you!

here is something that has inspired me
for the day

from the lovely eyeful

hope you have a lovely thursday
my wonderful friends.

12 January, 2011

2011 so far...

hello friends!

2011 has arrived
and i have so many ideas,
dreams, designs and creative
endeavors.
now i just need some motivation...

somehow over the last few months
i have felt slightly overwhelmed
with all of my potential projects.
and, because i am a perfectionist,
i hate working on something and
it not being 'perfect'.
so instead of working on pieces,
i have not worked
on anything for disregard{en}.
too many ideas/dreams/visions/creations/expectations
and i freeze.

so, in order to get over myself
(because i am pretty much the only
thing getting in my way at this point),
i am setting goals for myself.

this blog was my main goal for
disregard{en} in 2010. go me.
but this year, my main goal
is going to be...
 selling at flea markets!

so, as my friends, i am inviting
you on this second part of my journey.
i have primarily been selling
on etsy (and word-of-mouth)
but starting next month (eeeek),
i am going to be selling my items
with a few friends (and mr. amazing of course)
at the flea market (details to come).
but, in order to start selling,
i have a lot to do.
here is my checklist:

~ update my business cards
~ finish at least 5 more big pieces (seriously?!?)
~ figure out a tent/props for our selling area
~ apply for a resale license
~ figure out how to transport all of my pieces
~ bake some cookies for the day of
(because everyone needs a little
refreshment while shopping, right?!)

those are the main things i need to get done right now.
there will be plenty more as i go.

and, because you are my friends
and i have invited you along,
i thought it might be fun for my wonderful
friends to have an incentive
to encourage me along?
(selfish? no. creative? yes.)

so, here is the scoop:

~ if you write me & tell me what
inspires your creativity,
i will send you a discount in the mail,
either 10% discount on disregard{en} items
on etsy (not including shipping) or 1/3 off disregard{en} items
sold at the flea market

(seriously. and, don't forget to leave
your mailing address with your comment.
or you can email it to me at: offthestreetart@gmail.com
for those of you outside
california or in another country,
i will figure out some exciting & special deal.
promise.)

all of the new pieces will be featured
at the flea market. (and, later, on etsy) so stay tuned!
and, i will update you on the location and date
of the flea market as soon as i figure out
details. it will be sometime next month.

hope you are enjoying your wednesday evening
dear friends.

{table love}

good morning monday!
it is going to be a
beautiful {& hot}day!

i hope you had a wonderful weekend!
i worked saturday
and sunday this weekend
but i somehow managed
to find time to
re-stage & decorate
our dining room table.
it is my escape. even amidst
the crazyness of life.

this tablescape {a table display}
is what i
am currently looking
at as i finish my uber healthy
green breakfast smoothie.

isn't it lovely? it's so romantic.

i have a full week ahead of me
but i'm excited to share with you
some of my current projects.
stay tuned...
and, stay cool on your hot monday.

[free]day...

well, this featured item
was definitely free for me.
but more importantly, it was
a beautiful birthday gift from my sweet
friend caitlyn.
so today is more of a [gift]day than a [free]day.

caitlyn is one of those amazing
friends who loves so well. she knows
me well enough to know that i love
redeemed things & creative gifts.

the photo above is
my new flower press &
it was shipped to me exactly the
way you see it. adorable!
{minus the amazing tablecloth i found
at the flea market a few weekends ago}
my friend caitlyn & her husband found
the wood in a trash can,
cut it, drilled holes,
sanded it & stained it
specifically for me. i am loved.
and so known. and inside are cardboard
pieces that help press the flower.
{i am hoping to invite you guys
to follow her as she makes another
one. i'd love it to be a diy. wouldn't you?}

i am so excited to press some of our flowers
from our garden.

jonathan and i are just wrapping
up our stay down here in newport coast.
bummed but also excited for this upcoming
week. not not not excited for the heat.
blah.

i hope you all enjoy your weekend of
sunshine. make some iced tea, drink
some ice cold lemonade, & enjoy your
late afternoon & evenings outside.
much love my dear friends.

16 July, 2010

[free]day

[free]day = favorite day

here is a great find{s}

[gloria]
she is vivacious & subtle

and

[jane]
she is simple & sweet

i love them.
they are great finds (thanks jonathan!)
they are old powder stations (minus the mirrors).
what fun they will be to upcycle.
i am still figuring out
colors & textures....
[if either of these pieces are what you are looking for,
& you believe in my upcycling skill, feel
free to suggest a color(s) you would want]

oh, & yes, i do feel silly naming my pieces at times.
but it makes it much more fun. and you would be
surprised at how much it helps inspiration and
creativity. try it. and i also name practically
everything, including bugs.

i hope you enjoy your [HOT] weekend!
my husband and i are leaving the
heat (triple digits) to
head up north a few hours to, yep, triple digits.
but we will get to swim in a lake,
sleep in an air conditioned home, & eat amazingly
homemade meals. i love family.
see you all monday!

[free]day

today is [free]day.
i say this every time but it is because i really mean it.
these are my favorite days.
today's piece was not exactly free but uber cheap (you'll see why).
and, my wonderful husband actually found it.

here it is. she is. her name is nelle.

if you are a reader, or if you went to high school,
you would know this piece is named after nelle harper lee.
please say you know that name.
in case you don't know that name,
or in case you are an avid reader and appreciate art and beauty,
you should know
the 50th anniversary of the first publishing
of to kill a mockingbird is july 11th (this sunday).

lee's novel changed the world. and this country.
and definitely challenged mind's of the south.
i love how lee saw life.
i love the simplicity in which she communicated.

to kill a mockingbird is said to be the second book, next to the bible,
that has and continues to make a difference
(according to the library of congress).

so, in honor of nelle harper lee's astounding piece of art
and to making a difference
i am naming this [free]day
nelle

tonight jonathan and i are going to continue re-reading the
novel together, out loud.
and, please, if you have not read it,
get yourself a copy
it will change your life.
oh, and if you didn't like it
when you read it in high school, give it a second chance.
your mind has grown tremendously. i assure you.

enjoy your weekend of life & reading.
